Scarlett Johansson had a hilarious moment on Saturday Night Live, taking on the role of Sen. Katie Britt to send a playful message to President Joe Biden. The 39-year-old star made a surprise appearance in the show’s State of the Union skit, where she humorously parodied the Republican politician’s recent response to Biden’s speech to Congress.
The comedy sketch kicked off with Ego Nwodim playing CNN’s Abby Phillip and Mikey Day portraying Biden. Biden started by acknowledging that Britt’s response would be more impactful than anything he could say. In real life, Britt criticized Biden’s political views and highlighted his lengthy time in office, as reported by CBS News. Johansson’s character echoed similar sentiments in the skit.
Recorded in a cozy kitchen setting, much like Britt’s response to Biden’s State of the Union, Johansson humorously claimed that she was “trying out for the role of scary mom” and presenting an original monologue titled, ‘This nation is a nightmare.’ “I’m not just a senator, but also a wife, mother, and the most spirited lady in the Target parking lot,” the actress quipped during the show emceed by Josh Brolin, featuring Ariana Grande as the musical guest. “I’m concerned about our children’s future, which is why I’ve brought you into this peculiar, empty kitchen. Apparently, Republicans believe I need to connect with female voters, and apparently, women have a thing for kitchens.”
After watching President Biden’s lively State of the Union address, my husband Wesley and I were amazed by the energy of his performance. Unlike a seasoned politician, I’m just a regular mom who can’t help but share a sudden and shocking story about sex trafficking. Rest assured, every detail is based on real experiences, with a few fictional adjustments here and there. Moving from one topic to another, Scarlett Johansson’s character in the skit then transitioned into promoting bejeweled cross necklaces in a manner that was oddly seductive for no clear reason.
“I was just saying, the concept of the American dream has morphed into a complete nightmare. My husband Wesley and I find ourselves spending a significant amount of time in this kitchen, filled with worry. Kitchens often serve as the backdrop for those tough conversations within families. Tomorrow, we are set to have one of those conversations concerning how I managed to cause a national uproar,” she shared. “But really, folks, it’s Biden who should be held accountable for the current state of our nation. Just take a moment to reflect – are you in a better situation now compared to four years ago, during the seemingly golden days of 2020, a year where nothing seemed to go wrong?” Johansson continued. After breaking into a song, Johansson’s character whimsically remarked that she tells her kids every night that they are “saturated in the blood of freedom fighters in a fortress built of bones.” She then playfully referenced Jordan Peele’s Get Out while pretending to stir a teacup, prompting a reaction from Kenan Thompson. Addressing the struggling American people with a touch of humor, she stated, “We hear you. We see you. We smell you. We’re currently in your kitchen peeking into your fridge. Oh, what’s that on the top shelf? Migrants,” Johansson’s character, Britt, added. Concluding her speech, she playfully warned President Biden, “To the President of the United States, I’ll just say this: Mr. Biden, Katie Britt is not done with you yet. Maybe not in politics, but whenever you shut your eyes, I’ll be right there beside you.”
