Baxter expressed her sadness upon seeing the poor condition of a dog who had been left in an enclosure that was hardly ever visited, with only one visit every couple of months. The dog had managed to escape from the ropes binding her front legs and the blanket that was placed over her head, but she remained tied tightly at the back, causing lacerations on her skin. At first, the dog was frightened by Baxter’s presence, trembling and refusing to come near. However, Baxter was able to gain the dog’s trust by offering her some water from a bucket, which allowed him to pet her and remove the ropes from her hind legs and neck. Afterward, he shared his sandwich with her and contacted animal control for assistance. They sent pictures of the malnourished dog to Marley’s Mutts rescue group, which specializes in rescuing abandoned, abused, and euthanized dogs from local shelters. According to Zack Skow, the founder of the rescue group, this type of case was not unusual for them, as they frequently encounter dogs in distress due to various forms of abuse.
According to Baxter, Huffington Post was informed that Dora looked fantastic and it was a relief to see her in good health. The AT&T newsletter featured Dora’s story, which caught the attention of Kevin P. Smith, a senior technology project manager in the Bay area. He applied to adopt Dora immediately after reading her story. The following day, his wife Karen and their other rescue dog, Dante, drove to get Dora.
Dora was taken under their care and given the name Dora while receiving necessary veterinary care. As she was severely neglected, fostering her was not possible, which led to her staying with Skow. However, in just a short period, Dora underwent an incredible transformation and became a different dog altogether. What’s even more remarkable is that her rescuer had the opportunity to reunite with her. It’s a true fairytale ending where Baxter went on a call to Skow’s residence.
Hope is currently enjoying her life to the fullest, spending time walking in the park, playing with her new furry siblings, and receiving plenty of love and belly rubs from her caring human family. Even though she had a traumatic past, Hope has moved on and serves as a symbol of hope and resilience, inspiring others to show kindness to animals in need.
